Mystery of Love…

This Monday, my Blog Tour hosted by Back Off My Books, ended. I am so grateful to Jenn for everything she did to put this together; she was fantastic. If you didn’t stop by last Thursday to the Live event, host by RMWTPC‘s Lisa, you missed out. Let’s just say there was Truth or Dare, pics of Texas, and definitely some TK torture…but there were also giveaways! It was so much fun and I got to chat with some great people. If you were one of them, THANK YOU for stopping by. 🙂

Since the tour ended, I have been BETA-reading a few books (awesome books that I can’t wait to come out) and have been staring a the flashing cursor on my screen.

Yup…just staring. I have drafted, outlined, rewritten, scratched out, made notes and still nothing. I have been stuck and it’s been killing me. How am I ever going to publish the book, if I can’t even finish it. As I told my CPs, I am having brain to computer issues. I see it playing out, but I can’t write it out. Make sense?

Mine to Lose ~ Notes

Mine to Lose ~ Notes

That problem was solved yesterday when I cleared my desk, put a song on repeat, got out my notecards and went for it. Not sure what was different between this time and ALL the other times I have tried to work it out, but this time, it clicked. I wrote note after note for two hours and when I was done, I had the entire thing complete! Working through the issues that were blocking me lifted a huge weight off my shoulders, and motivated me to get moving. I was attached to my desk chair for hours, only stopping to eat and say goodnight to the kiddos. By the time I called it a night and shut down last, I had over 2k new words written, another chapter complete and a huge smile on my face.

So, that being said, my focus is on finishing Mine to Lose and I hope that when it’s done, you will love it. I couldn’t stop smiling last night, because I fell in love with Ryan, Emogen’s boyfriend, all over again. I’m so happy, in fact, that I’ve posted a small teaser below:

Mine to Lose ~ Teaser 1

Mine to Lose ~ Teaser 1

Thank you for reading today’s post. Hopefully the teaser did just that….and maybe you’ll check back next week to see what other little snippets I’ll share. I promise, there WILL be another teaser. Who knows, maybe you’ll hear from Trey….he’s kinda great, too.

Don’t forget, during the month of October, 10% of sales from Being There will be donated to The Rose in Houston, Texas, in support of Breast Cancer awareness month!! Click HERE to buy your copy and help a great cause!

One final note: be sure to check back tomorrow or Friday, because one of my FAVORITE authors will be my featured spotlight. Want to know who it is? Check back 😉

😎 Mystery of Love” by David Gray – Just listen to it.

It’s Thursday, you know what that means….another Author Spotlight!

This week, Ashley Suzanne has stopped by. Ashley is the author of Mirage and Inception, and took some time out of her day to answer some questions. 🙂

Synopsis of Mirage:

Mira and Kylee meet Danny and Skylar during freshman orientation, their first week of college. Two sets of best friends embark on a new adventure together, forming life long bonds.

Mira and Danny are looking forward to their future as husband and wife. Everything was going according to plan. That was until tragedy struck them on graduation night leaving three broken people to pick up the pieces.

Skylar has always stood in the background, watching his best friend begin a life with the woman he fell in love with until he can no longer keep a distance.

Right when Mira thinks her life is back on track it spirals out of control. What if everything you thought you knew was nothing more than a mirage?

  1. You published your first book, Mirage, this summer. What has that experience been like for you?  Am I allowed to say it’s been weird?  Okay, I’m saying it.  It’s been weird.  But an awesome time!  Writing Mirage was a lot of fun, publishing was terrifying and seeing people fall in love with my characters takes my breath away!
  2. Is there any part of your books that you can personally relate to? Do any of the characters have traits that are you?  Even though this book is fiction, it’s really close to my heart.  A lot of the book are personal experiences of mine and the people I love.  Of course they’re altered, to fit the fiction realm, but they hit really close to home.  I’ve been to the clubhouse I described, my husband is a biker, Kylee is ALL my personality and Skylar, well, CRAP, I wanna marry him and have his babies!
  3. What do your fans love most about your work?  The biggest compliment I’ve received is that Mirage was a refreshing change to the typical romance novel.  I know a lot of people hate cliffhangers and want a HEA for the characters, and I’m one of them.  But I wanted to do a different kind of cliffy and the ones who read it like it!!  Doing a well plotted CH is a biggie for me and I think I nailed it!
  4. What can you tell us about Inception (The Destined Series)?  Inception is Danny’s story.  Inception will give NO resolution to the CH in Mirage, but give you a back story.  Many readers who email/message/FB me are telling me that it made a lot of the pieces come together that they were missing in Mirage.  And the love the bond between Danny and Skylar!!
  5. Now that you have published a couple of books, what are your thoughts on the writing community?  I love my colleagues.  I love the bloggers.  I love the readers.  I couldn’t think of a better job!  Hopefully one day it will be my career!
  6. Have you always want to be a writer?  When I was in high school, I took a lot of English courses.  Creative Writing, Expository Writing ect.  I also loved Drama and the creative process of writing a play.  I wanted to create since forever ago.  I never thought I would be a writer though.  I would have seen myself more on a stage.  Then one day, I realized that I would rather see my name in print than in lights and the rest is history!
  7. If you weren’t an author, what do you think you’d be doing?  The same thing I do now LOL.  I’m a full time employee, a mom and a wife.  I’m also a blogger.  If I wasn’t spending my nights writing, I would be reading!
  8. What do you consider the hardest part of writing? What is your favorite part?  The hardest part for me was tenses.  I hate tenses, HATE.  I always get them confused.  I know it sounds stupid, but when I’m writing, I just tell the story as it appears in my head.  I’m sure my editor wants to stab me in the eyeballs by now.  The best part is plot changes.  When your story is going one way and then all of a sudden a light bulb goes off and BAM you have a totally different story!
  9. Who would you consider your inspiration personally? Professionally?  Personally, it’s my family.  My family has stood by me and given me support in anything I ever wanted to do in life.  They never think my dreams are stupid and even if I fail, they’re there to pick me up again.  They’re kind of amazing!  Professionally, it’s the other writers in the Indie community.  I can’t single anyone out because they are all so amazing.  There are a few who are my own personal “Yoda’s” and help me through everything.  I really admire them, their work ethic and their craft.  I hope to be as amazing as them one day.
  10. What does your family think about your writing? Have they read your books?  My husband supports me to the fullest.  He does anything he can to make sure I have my time to write.  My kids hate it.  They miss mommy.  I can’t blame them.  My mom is currently reading Mirage and my aunt just finished.  It’s kind of weird they are reading the “sex” I write, but oh well!!!  I think it’s kind of funny now!
  11. What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment? Hmmmmm.  This is a hard one.  I’m going to say that getting my GED this year is my biggest accomplishment and my proudest moment.  I dropped out of high school when I was 17 and had my oldest son.  I never had the chance to finish.  Even though I went to college and had a career, I wanted to prove something to myself and be a roll model for my kids.  I didn’t want them to ever think they can take the easy way out and it will all be fine.  I’m the exception to that rule.  So I took my GED at 28!
  12. If someone asked for your advice about writing a book, what would it be?  If you can dream it, you can do it!  If you want it bad enough, Make It Happen.
  13. Who are your top 3 favorite authors?  OH GOD!  You’re trying to kill me.  Okay, let’s see.  Traditional Published Authors:  Janet Evanovich, Maya Banks and Megan Hart.  I will read anything they write.  Indie Authors:  I just can’t do it.  I’ll give you a top 10, in no particular order.  Pamela Ann, Madeline Sheehan, SE Hall, Hilary Storm, Mia Michele, Kendall Grey, Gail McHugh, Jasinda Wilder, Harper Sloan and Pepper Winters.
  14. Are you reading anything right now? What? I’m currently reading Falling Into You by Jasinda Wilder and crying my freakin eyes out.
  15. What are you working on right now?  Awakening .. SQUEEEEEEEE
  16. If you could say anything to your readers, what would you say?  There’s not enough room.  THANK YOU!!!  I wouldn’t be able to do what I love without you and your support.  Indie readers are some of the most loyal dedicated fans I have ever run across in any industry.  You stick by your authors and have no problem messaging them to tell them you wanna cut them, hug them, smack them or hump their legs.  You are all WONDERFUL!

Another is Waiting…

Since my last post, I’ve had a busy, and exciting week.

This weekend, I got to go to the Austin Author Signing, where I got to fangirl over the likes of Colleen Hoover (who had Griffin Petersen with her a.k.a. Holder), Molly McAdams, Tamara Webber and more!

As excited as I was to see these amazing writers, I was just as excited to FINALLY meet my fellow indie authors, R. Jean Wilson & Britney King!!! Oddly enough, as chilly as it was outside, hanging with R. Jean and Lance (her sweet bf, who waited along with us), the time passed rather quickly. As many times as we have texted and chatted, meeting was a million times better and I felt like I’ve known her forever. It was funny to find out that there were other indies there that I didn’t know about until after the fact, so we’ll have to make sure we fix that next time…like say at the Houston Book Rave???

It really was an amazing weekend, and I’m so happy my hubby and daughters drove me up so I could fangirl! And really glad his sis happened to be there too so she could keep them busy. Lol.

So that was last week….

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT – Michelle Escamilla

Since publishing, I have been able to meet so many amazing people. I don’t think the word “amazing” can be used enough to describe this group. We write different genres, yet we all support and promote each other! What more can you ask for from peers? I love what I have the opportunity to do what I love, because I get to meet people like Michelle.

Synopsis of Torn:

Ryleigh is a young woman who has everything she could ever ask for, until one night she runs into her first true love.

She has to figure out does she stay with the man she married or does she give long lost loves a second chance?

Get to know…

Michelle Escamilla

Michelle Escamilla

  1. You published your first book, Torn, this summer. What made you want to tell this particular story? I had an old friend just pop into my life, but nothing like their story. But I just started to write about that and then it snowballed as I wrote, LOL!
  2. What is your process when creating a story? When I start a story, I start out with the characters. I want a story that people can relate to the characters. Then I try to build a story around them.
  3. When you create your characters, are they based on anyone you know? Is there any part of your story that you can relate to personally? That’s funny you ask, I tend to base them on some experiences that I have had. Now, they aren’t exact but I do put some personal ties to each of my characters.
  4. What is your favorite part of creating a story? What is the hardest? My favorite part of creating the story is ACTUALLY creating the story and brainstorming. The hardest part is making it tie together sometimes.
  5. Have you always wanted to be a writer? If not, what did you want to do? I did not. I wanted to be a police officer for the longest time! Funny how I went from one extreme to the other. LOL!
  6. Given the option, would you rather be traditionally published or self-published? Why? Well, I would like a publishing company to recognize me, but I’m loving the idea that *I* published my own book. It gives me a sense of control as well as accomplishment.
  7. Who would you consider your inspiration personally? Professionally? Personally, I’d have to say my friends. I have the best cheerleaders behind me and they inspire me. Professionally, other authors, their writings, their encouragement- I truly am inspired to write because of them.
  8. What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment? BIGGEST is becoming a mom. Then in second place is writing two books.
  9. What do you feel is the biggest misconception about writing and writers? I’d have to say that we have an “easy” job… writing is actually hard and when you have to EDIT… oh man, don’t get me started on edits… LOL!
  10. If someone came to you and said they were writing a book, asking for your advice, what would you tell them? First I’d say, “YAAY!! That’s awesome!” My advice, totally do it! If you have a story to tell, put it down on paper! Even if you don’t publish it, what an amazing accomplishment to put it all down on paper!
  11. If you had to choose, who would be your top 3 favorite authors? Why? Oh man… just 3? Okay, I have to start with Maya Banks. I LOVE her stories. I know its actually two authors but Christina Lauren- sexy and funny stories. Then I think that I’d pick Sylvia Day, I had the pleasure of meeting her and she was SO sweet but also her stories are great…Okay if I didn’t list indie authors- please to don’t hate, I still love all of you!
  12. Are you reading anything right now? What? No *sniff* I will be though come November haha!
  13. What are you working on right now? I’m finishing up edits on my second book that releases on Halloween!
  14. If you could say anything to your readers, what would you say? I’d say… Thank you SOOOO much for your support! I truly appreciate each and every single one of you.

The Rose

The Rose

THANK YOU! The response has been overwhelming and distracting, because I should be writing. 🙂
I’m also excited to announce that last weekend

Being There

hit #4
on the Amazon “Love & Romance” best seller list!!

Blown away, doesn’t even reach what I’m feeling. Again, THANK YOU!

What’s Coming Up:

  • Jenn from Back Off My Books, will be hosting a blog tour for Being There next week! There are some wonderful bloggers participating, so hopefully you’ll check them out. I will be sure to post more when it happens.
  • I’m still working on Mine to Lose, which I hope to send out for editing at the end of the month. This story has taken turns that were not expected, so I’m beating my head, and crying, as I write. Hopefully I will be able to share some teasers soon.
  • There will be a new Author Spotlight tomorrow, Ms. Michelle Escamilla will share a little of herself with us, and I’m looking forward to that!
  • ONE MORE THING!!! Have you read Perfect Regret from A. Meredith Walters? If not, you need to….go 1-click now!!! I read it in one night, because honestly, I love everything she writes. I laughed and cried and didn’t want it to end, but as all things do…

I know I have more, and I would love to share, I really would. But I need to get back to visiting with Emogen from Mine to Lose, so I can figure out what is going on with this girl. She’s a bit of a mess, and stubborn, but I love her! (It’s easy to see why people are drawn to her.) She has two pretty amazing, and completely different guys giving her attention, but only one has her heart. She just needs to tell me who it is! She’s actually quite frustrating at the moment.

Thanks for reading! And, if you were curious about the title, The Avett Brothers released their new album yesterday, (click here) Magpie & the Dandelion. I have LITERALLY listened to Vanity over 100 times already. It is my favorite song! My husband is teasing me because I sing it non-stop, and not quite well. 🙂

Until mañana!
